Change Jobs
Work for a high carbon emitting industry or do something that feels meaningless? Well maybe now is the time to upskill and consider a roll in every expanding green economy.
Traditional green economy jobs include renewable energy, electric transport, energy efficiency or nature conservation. As more sectors must comply with environmental governance low-carbon models, every sector has the potential to offer "green" jobs.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) defines a green job as:
Employment in an activity that contributes to protecting or restoring the environment, including those that mitigate or adapt to climate change.
And that's a lot of jobs! In 2018 there were 185,000 full-time workers in England's low-carbon and renewable energy economy. Estimated that in 2030 there could be well over 600,000 direct jobs employed in the low-carbon and renewable energy economy. All going well this is set to over 1.18 million by 2050
Just to decarbonising the UK's housing stock will create 100,000 jobs annually over the next decade.
So if it is your first job, or you are an entrepreneur or a seasoned professional, now is the time to start to become part of the great green transition.
